Description
Join one of the guides of our community on a walk through the wetlands of Bigodi. This walk was started by the local community in 1992 and has won several awards, including the Equator Initiative Award (twice) and Silver during the African Sustainable Tourism Awards 2015. The walk boards the Kabale National Park in western Uganda, and 100% of the net income from this activity benefits local people and projects.
The walk takes around 3 hours. The sanctuary features eight primate species, numerous other fascinating mammals, over 200 bird species, many reptiles, and innumerable varieties of trees, shrubs, and vines. You will likely see several kinds of monkeys on your tour, including black and white colobus, red colobus, mangabey, red tail, vervet, and L’Hoest. Other wetlands mammals include baboons, sitatunga (an increasingly endangered swamp antelope), bush pigs, civet cats, mongooses, bushbucks, and an occasional chimpanzee. Perhaps the most favorite animal of visitors is the great blue turaco. Also frequently seen are varieties of papyrus gonoleks, hornbills, waxbills, weavers, cuckoos, kingfishers, flycatchers, and many others.
