Traditional Gambian Homestay

Description

This Gambia Homestay is the best way to immerse yourself in the local life of a traditional fishing village. Everyone is friendly and laidback. You will surely enjoy peace and tranquility far removed from the busy city lifestyle. Brothers Franco and Alhagie cannot wait to welcome you to Tanji, where you will live their daily life, meet their friends and neighbors, and have the opportunity to exchange stories. The community is looking forward to hosting you and getting to know you.

There are two Tanji homestays to choose from, and you can decide when you get there. Both offer you a double bedroom with a western-style shower and toilet. You have the option to join us for lunch and/or dinner. You will get to know your hosts' wives as they happily prepare delicious homecooked meals for you. As you ask questions about the rhythms of daily life, how they use the ingredients, and the traditional cooking methods, you will taste, smell, and see the Gambian culture as it truly exists today, not just how the tourist places would sell it to you. There is no Gambia homestay more authentic than this!

Reviews

The guesthouse is located in the village of Tanji and guarantees a real home/village feeling. There is always someone ready to help, Franco, Eefje, or the staff. They know the region well and will always help with questions or recommendations. The food is good and the rooms have everything needed. The music and dance evenings are great to witness, even if you just want to watch. It is quite a walk to the coastal road but the walk gives you a great insight into local life. I would definitely stay here again. Thanks for everything!

Great place to stay - we had a wonderful 3 nights here. The food was great, everyone was very flexible, there was plenty of advice about what to see and where to go. Tanji is a great place to explore with an amazing fishing beach and a great museum, catching taxis were easy from near the house and Franco was always willing to arrange transport as well. The accommodation was very good and very comfortable with plenty of space for the 5 of us.
