Tinka’s Homestay in Bigodi

Welcome to my home near Kibale National Park! Are you tired of being a tourist or looking for a place to go over the weekend or do you want to volunteer in my community with a place to stay? My home is your home. My family and I are part of the Batooro people of western Uganda. We will be proud to show you our culture and make you part of it.

My Kibale homestay is basic with newly built spacious rooms and an ensuite bathroom. There is no running water, but we will provide buckets and a basin to bathe (cold water). There's a nice pit latrine outside and a toilet to use inside at night. There's electricity in all the rooms, and the beds are comfortable.

My daughter Bridget will prepare the food for you. It will be plentiful and tasty. Our meals often exist of potatoes, tomatoes, rice, beans, and lots of vegetables. We can serve you an early breakfast and make you a packed lunch if you're heading to the national park.

Our homestay is located in Bigodi town, about 6 km past the Kanyanchu gate at Kibale National Park. We can arrange a boda boda to take you to Kanyanchu Gate. Regular chimpanzee trekking starts early in the morning, but the chimp habituation starts a lot earlier. The chimpanzee habituation experience is highly recommended as you can spend 8 hours with the chimps and will often be 35m away from them.

To get to our place you can take a shared taxi from Fort Portal to Bigodi Village.

We had such a great experience! Bridget was particularly warm, caring and so hospitable. The naming ceremony and the dancing and drumming our third evening were so special and meaningful; we loved the family traditions. The traditional food was appreciated while we thought the family compound was beautiful, peaceful, and relaxed. I was recuperating from a stomach problem and Bridget called the doctor for me. She welcomed too with lemongrass tea which was such a considerate and loving gesture. Tinka and his family hold a special place in our hearts forever!

My friend at I stayed at Tinka’s three nights as part of a larger trip traveling independently around Uganda. Our stay at Tinka’s was absolutely brilliant :-) We couldn’t have asked for any more. Tinka and his family were excellent, warm, and welcoming hosts. They cooked us delightful, local meals and were very accommodating to us in their lovely house. They talked us through a lot of their culture and traditions, and on our final night, they treated us to some traditional dancing as part of our Tooro naming ceremony! I would highly recommend staying there to anyone in the future and we recommended it to other people we met elsewhere on our trip.
