Penang Home Cooking Class with a Local Chef

I'm Samuel, and I am a passionate professional chef here in Penang. I want to cherish and protect traditional Malaysian recipes as Malaysia's diverse food culture all exists due to its ethnic diversity, so I launched my local cooking class.

This Penang cooking class will take place at our high-rise home, where I will teach you all ins and outs of Malaysian cooking and century-old recipes. We will cook three different dishes and visit Penang's most vibrant morning market that most tourists miss. Along the way, we will have a stopover at Him Heang, which is my number one spot for local pastries!

After I pick you up, we'll first visit the Air Itam Market to buy and learn about unique local ingredients. It shows you perfectly the bustling morning lifestyle of the Malaysians. We'll also enjoy an authentic breakfast and sip a coffee at a famous nearby Kopitiam.

At my Penang cooking class, you will learn three signature dishes from a theme I set forward daily. Each theme is designed to revolve around an ethnic cuisine such as the Straits Chinese hawker food, diverse Malay spices, Mamak in action, Nyonya old wisdom, etc. Book for a week if you have ample time to explore every ethnic cuisine of Malaysia!

You'll also have the chance to taste my nutmeg juice during the cooking class, which is very refreshing and made from native grown produce.

About Me

Hi, I'm Samuel and I'm a professional chef with 10 years of experience in internationally renowned hotels. I wish to bring underrated Malaysian cuisine globally with unforgettable culinary experiences and also to bring together a social online community with quick easy recipes with local Malaysian ingredients, accessible by the end of our fingertips. Mum's impressive home-cooking has sparked my culinary interest since childhood, and embarked me on this never-ending culinary journey!

I live in Penang, Malaysia - hailed as one of the best food cities in Asia together with my fiancee, Jacqueline who herself is a local. Its winning blend is the rooted 200-year diversity of Asian cultures in a single place - Chinese, Malay, Indian, Thai, Japanese & Western, which even gave birth to cuisine like - Nyonya (Peranakan) & Eurasian. Hailed as yummiest food places in Asia, I've mastered the skills into making em' and love to share all the Malaysian food culture wisdom with all food enthusiasts like you.
