Description
Hi, my name is Benjamin, and I established a social enterprise in Kibera that aims to empower our local community through tourism.
Kibera is located in the heart of Nairobi and is East Africa's largest informal settlement, with a population of about 1.2 million people. As our community is so often stigmatized from the outside, we wanted to use our platform to showcase a different side to life in an informal settlement and share positive and empowering stories from the locals that make up our community. You'll leave this tour blown away by just how lively and inspiring our neighborhood is.
On this Kibera tour, I'll take you on a journey through our community where you'll meet and interact with locals from all different backgrounds and represent more than 40 tribes. Along the way, we'll visit a local women's empowerment group we partner with to sell their colorful variety of beadwork, which helps fund their daycare center. You'll have the chance to join in and even design some beadwork yourself, which we highly recommend. We will then visit another group of sustainable-minded artisans who recycle discarded animal bones to make bracelets, earrings, bottle openers, and much more! Depending on the day, we'll also make arrangements to visit some other inspiring social entrepreneurs that call our community.
If you want to try a snack during the tour, I'll make sure to share some of my favorite Kenyan delicacies with you, such as mandazis or chapattis.
I look forward to hosting you and sharing more about our community on this inspiring Kibera tour that you will never forget!
