Kibera Walk with Benjamin & Co.

Description

Hi, we are Benjamin, Lucas,Grace, Richie, Prudence and Rigan and we are born and raised in Kibera. Kibera is the biggest informal settlement (slum) in East and Central Africa with a population of about 1.2 million people. We would like to showcase a different side of an informal settlement and share stories of positivity and empowerment. You will be amazed by this lively and entrepreneurial neighborhood.

We will take you on a walk through our neighborhood where you will have the chance to comfortably interact with the locals from different backgrounds as we have more than 40 tribes.

Along the way we will visit a local women group (Power Women) our partnered organization that deals with a wide variety of beadworks and a daycare center. You will have a chance to experience the beadmaking process and you are highly encouraged to take part if interested. We then will proceed to an entrepreneurial organization that recycles animal bones to make bracelets, earrings, bottle openers, and much more!

If you get hungry in the mean time we can let you taste some Kenyan specialties like mandazi or chapatti.

The tour will then be concluded at the ‘Smile Children Home’. Here you’ll have a chance to interact and play with the local children, take part in assisting daily chores, assist with homework, or just chill around.

Starting time: flexible

Meeting point: Kibera Town Center, near Olympic Primary School. We can also pick you at Nakumatt Prestige Supermarket, Ngon'g Road.

On the other hand, we denounce with righteous indignation and dislike men who are so beguiled and demoralized by the charms of pleasure of the moment, so blinded by desire, that they cannot foresee.
