Enjoy a Traditional Chagga Cooking Class

Description

- Visit our local farm and harvest the food
- Learn everything about our Chagga local cuisine
- Learn to make the traditional local recipes from mama Merycedes or mama Theresia
- Learn how to cook bananas like a local
- Enjoy organic food cultivated on the rich volcanic soil of Mount Kilimanjaro

Do you love food as much as we do? This is your chance to learn our traditional Tanzanian recipes.

Meet our local mama’s Merycedes and Theresia who are passionate about cooking. They will guide you to prepare our typical local food step by step, from how to harvest different ground tubers and bananas and how to prepare them for cooking our famous food such as Machalaari (banana with beef) banana stew, and bean stew. The table will be served with different seasonal fruits.

Together we will share the delicious prepared meal and exchange our stories so that we leave with an unforgettable memory.

You can extend this experience with an overnight stay with a Chagga family. Stay with locals around banana forest, meet friendly family & enjoy local foods while learn basic Swahili words and songs and hear stories from your host. You can add this experience in the additional service section.

Reviews

Things you have to try in your life at least once. It was one of the best experiences in my life!! Really, traveling is not only to be in a place, you have to live in the place! They gave us the chance to live with local people, to meet the culture and the habits of people! They were very friendly and helpful, they have a lot of knowledge. Definitely, you have to try this experience.

About Me

My name is Linus. I'm the founder and Coordinator of Mkuu Cultural Tourism Enterprise. I grew up in Mkuu-Rombo village 61 km from Moshi and 25 km from Lake Chala Crater. I have experience in Tanzania cultural tourism since 2009 – have been working with different cultural tourism programs and guiding tourists since 2012. I know well what cultural tourists like and prefer. Drop me a line and let me take you to a magic place off-the-beaten Path!

I am establishing a quasi Museum (local Museum) in my village dedicated to collect and preserve our valuable cultural objects which are facing massive destruction and loss due to globalization and other factors, a lot of objects already collected.
Taking tourists to Mkuu-Rombo and Lake Chala off-the-beaten path and sharing our culture and our area helps in preserving it.
