If you like to go off the beaten track then northeastern Cambodia will suit you. The northeast is one of the wildest regions in Cambodia. It is home to some of Cambodia’s most beautiful landscapes, as well as tigers, leopards and elephants. For misty mountains, cool climate, a stunning volcanic lake and scattered chunchiet villages the Ratanakiri province is the place to be. Go hiking through dense forest, meet the local indigenous people and see Cambodia life 50 years back. Far fewer make it to Mondulkiri province. It still lacks much of the infrastructure so be aware that you have to slow down to the pace of life of rural Cambodia. You can experience local life of the Dak Dam and Dei-Ey community. If you want to really experience Cambodia and see less tourists then this area is definitely your cup of tea.
