Then a 34 km ride will take you to Sapa by a scenic mountain road.

The next morning you will meet your local guide, and you will start to hike to Suoi Ho, a little village of the Black H’mong people. On the way you can enjoy stunning views of rice terraces, mountains and you will pass local people working on their lands. In the village of Ta Phin you can meet both H’mong and Red Dao minorities. The Red Dao people are known for their expertise in herbal medicine, especially medicinal baths. They use plants from the forest to treat different diseases. You will be introduced to some Red Dao women who can tell you more about their many remedies. At the end of the day you will be welcomed into the home of a local Red Dao family, where dinner will be cooked on an open fire. You can help with the traditional cooking or relax on the terrace with a refreshing drink. After dinner take the unique chance to soak your body in an herbal medicine bath and sleep soundly in a clean and comfortable bed with mosquito net and plenty of blankets.

In little villages like Ta Phin there is no need for an alarm clock, as the resident rooster will kindly let you know it’s time to get up. After breakfast you will start the trek to Trung Chai Village. It is located in an exceptional landscape! After having hiked a few hours you will be provided with a picnic lunch. Meet Shu Tan

Ask a question

Hello, my name is Shu Tan, I am a single mother from the Black H’mong tribe. With the help of four Australian volunteers, I was able to turn my dream of helping my people into a reality. Working together, we funded the first H’mong owned homestay in Sapa and established a socially conscious trekking service. Running on the social enterprise blueprint, we put the money earned back into the community through projects such as providing winter clothes to children and improvements to the village schools.

Later, I decided to tackle the problem of illiteracy among Sapa’s young tour guides and street vendors, many of whom never had the chance to go to school. With the help of a Norwegian anthropology student I organized informal English night classes for a small group of enthusiastic youth in a room provided by a local hotel. As these classes grew in popularity, so did the need for more facilities. In the summer of 2010, our first school opened.

Today, we run on the same social enterprise principles on which it was founded: working hard and giving back. We now have four inter-connected pieces: a school, a café, a hotel and a tour operation.
