Description

The roads are rough and unforgiving. The highway is often plied with trucks carrying rocks. The distances between homestays are long. If you don’t know how to ride a motorbike—or if you’re travelling with kids—you’ll need to find an alternative way to get around. It’s possible to travel to Ha Giang City or Dong Van City by bus from Hanoi or Lao Cai (Sapa). Of the options that currently exist for non-bikers, private car is by far the best choice.

Travelling by car in Ha Giang doesn’t mean having to compromise or miss out on any of the popular sights. In fact, our tour will give you access to some parts of Ha Giang other tourists don’t typically get to see.

Day 1: Hanoi - Ha Giang - Thon Tha

7:30AM collection from your hotel by tour guide and driver. On the way you will have lunch. 2:00PM Arrive in Ha Giang city and travel on to Thon Tha village, 5km away. Check in to the bungalow in Thon Tha village. Your residence is a traditional Tay house, a stilt thatched-roof house. In the room is a matress on the floor with a pillow and blankets where you will sleep and a mosquito net. A toilet is also in your room.

Enjoy a short walk around the village in the afternoon and, if you like, enjoy a swim beside the local waterfall. Then sleep overnight in the bungalow.

Day 2: Thon Tha - Yen Minh - Skypath - Dong Van - 170km

Wake up in a small village surrounded by terraced rice paddies and breathe in the fresh early morning air. Have breakfast and then get in the car to travel to Thon Tha, Meo Vac and Dong Van. We will stop to see the Quan Ba Heaven Gate which is 1500m above sea level and often shrouded in clouds and mist. Climb up 100 steps to reach the gate itself, and enjoy a panoramic view of the stunning UNESCO Dong Van geo-park. Then we will climb up Yen Minh peak and enjoy an energetic hike.

We will get back into the car and head to Skypath on Ma Pi Leng and hike to Flower H’mong village where we will spend time getting to interact with the local culture. The duration of the hike depends on the weather, and the tour guide will make a judgement on the day and let you know what time you will return to Dong Van to your hotel.

Day 3: Dong Van - H’Mong King Palaca - Sung La - Nam Dam

Today we will visit some more villages and spend time with some H’mong families and get to know their stories and personalities. On the car tour you will take in the breathtaking mountain view of the Rock Plateau. We will see the H’mong royal palace and stop at Sung La. Then we will visit Lung Tam, a Flower H’mong village to learn about traditional techniques for making clothing.

After the day’s excursions you will check in to your homestay at Nam Dam village and take an orientation tour around the village with your guide. Your accommodation will be a traditional Coin Dao house. You will have a private room but the toilet and bathroom will be outside of the house.

Day 4: Nam Dam - Lung Khuy Cave - Hanoi

Enjoy an early morning breakfast and check out of your homestay at 8:00AM.

Then we will drive to the special Lung Khuy Cave, only opened to the public in 2016, so it is hardly explored. On the journey you will witness more stunning Vietnamese countryside.

Visit Quan Ba Sunday market where H’mong, Dao, Tay and Kinh people meet to socialise and trade.

6:30PM: You will be dropped back at your hotel.

Meet Tuoi, Trang and Tuyet

Member since: November 2019

We are three friends brought together by a common passion for community and authentic responsible tourism in northern Vietnam. We have been carrying out tourism projects in various remote areas in northern Vietnam since 2014, providing communities with education and career development in the tourism industry. We assist homestay owners in managing their business, training local guides, providing English classes and organising development projects that benefit the wider community. Our mission is to increase employment for underprivileged youth and promote responsible tourism. Our students are trained in many areas from Vietnamese history to the fundamentals of responsible tourism. We teach them to protect the environment and preserve culture and traditions. We also instil a passion for passing on their knowledge and cultural sensitivities to international visitors, enriching their experience.
