If you are a dedicated foodie, this is a trip that can satisfy your taste buds!

DESCRIPTION

Me, or one of my other foodie friends will meet you at 9 am in the morning for a day full of fabulous food that will satisfy your taste buds for sure. Don’t eat breakfast before starting on this food exploration as we will start with a Thai-style breakfast in one of the alleys that has century-old houses lined up on both sides of the alley. We will visit an 80-year-old Thai herb shop to learn about the use of traditional Thai medicine.

After a short visit of one of Bangkok’s most tranquil temples we continue our journey to one of the oldest (and best) markets in Bangkok. You will meet the local vendors and try a wide range of food. We will sit down to eat at two modest, but famous food shops that have been open for 30 – 50 years. Our walk is alternated with passing by some ancient buildings, shrines and local artisans.

The next stop is a very special place. An elderly woman, who prepares every dish from scratch and uses traditional methods, runs the place. You will enjoy some delicious Thai curries, salads and soups. We will finish our food journey at a shop that’s producing ice cream from young coconuts for 70 years. Taste their famous mango, coconut or durian ice cream. OMG!

This tour takes around 7 hours and is offered every day except on Sunday. Children under 4 years old are free.

Meeting point and time: 9:00 AM at Krung Thonburi BTS SkyTrain Station, Exit 3.

Meet Meet Chin and her foodie friends

Ask a question

Hello, my name is Chin and I’m living in Bangkok for 10 years now. All my free time is devoted to exploring, studying and experimenting with Thai cuisine. I worked as an English teacher before starting this food tour, and before that, I learned all about Thai food and wild plants from my mother and grandmother in the northeast Thai countryside. I hope you will feel that a local friend shows you around. I’m not doing this on my own and have some other local foodies on board.

Location

This tour was a magnificent introduction to so many delicious Thai foods from all around the country, visiting several outdoor markets, lots of food stalls in the streets, two restaurants, and even a traditional Thai herbalist. In almost every place we went I was the only tourist in sight. My guide, Chin, has been doing this for about three years now, and she has created a relationship with many of the food purveyors on the route and Chin knew the history behind each of the cooks. My favorite part of the day (aside from all the eating, that is) was going behind the counter to join the cooks and do a bit of the food prep myself!
