DESCRIPTION

Nepal has a distinguished cuisine that is full of flavor. A lot of people fall in love with the Nepali food, and in this cooking class at my home in Pokhara I will teach you how to make it. In Nepal Dal Bhat, a very healthy rice and lentil soup, is one of the most popular dishes. 75% of the people eat this twice a day. So this is a dish you can’t miss and I will show you its secrets. Besides the Dal we are going to make Puri, Pakauda & Aaludum, Nepali Momo & soup (Meat Momo or Vegetarian Momo). All dishes are very common in Nepal. Afterwards you can enjoy your own made Nepali dish!

Meet Rekha

Hi, I am Rekha and I am 38 years old. I have three own biological children, two daughters and one son. Besides that I am taken care of 16 orphans. I like cooking a lot, and to create a way of income to take care of all these children, I provide cooking classes. I teach typical Nepali food like Daal Bhat, Momo’s, Puri and much more.

Location

A great local thing in Pokhara is following a cooking class at Rekha's place. We made typical Nepali dishes and learned a lot from the chef. Her English is not good but her son and husband translated all the time. That made things a lot easier for us! The food is delicious. Another important notice is that they take care of 13 (or 16...) Nepali children who have lost their parents. If you decide to follow a cooking class here, you are supporting indirectly the children as well, which is a great thing to do.

Simply amazing – do it! We took Rekha’s cooking class in October 2017 because we loved to eat Dal Bhaat and Momos while trekking in the Annapurna Conservation Area and really wanted to learn how to make those (properly!) ourselves. The experience was absolutely fantastic. Rekha and her family were very lovely, kind and welcoming. We had so much fun and many laughs during our visit :-) Rekha and her family had prepared everything beforehand so they could show and explain everything in detail. If you like cooking and learning about spices, this class should definitely be on your to do-list. Not only did we learn how to cook Nepali style (Dal Bhaat, Momos and Puri), but we also had the best Dal Bhaat ever – and we’ve really had a lot of those during two visits to Nepal (almost two months of trekking). Rekha is a fantastic cook who likes to share her passion.

The cooking class was awesome- Rekha and her family welcomed me with open arms and the food we cooked was delicious! I learned to cook Dhal batt, puri and a curry to go with it and the famous Nepalese momos! Thanks for your help in organising!
