DESCRIPTION
Day 1: Marrakech – Handor
We will pick you up from your hotel at 8 o’clock in the morning and start the trip into the High Atlas Mountains. We will cross the Tizi n Tichka Pass, rising to 2260m, and stop to visit the famous site of Ait Ben Haddou, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site. After the visit and lunch, we continue across the Valley of Draa and arrive at Nkob, a small Berber village. At this juncture, we drive north off-road toward the Jebel Saghro Mountains. We end the day in the beautiful valley of Handor and spend the night in camp or a guest house.
Day 2: Handor– Nomad Homestay
At Handor, we begin our trek to the nomad camp. Muleteers will take the luggage as we hike 1 hours across the Tifdassine Valley and have a break for lunch. After another 2 hours, we reach the remote Ait Atta camp and meet our nomadic host family.
You have the chance of milking the goats, which is the main work for the nomads during the day, as well as preparing butter and a local type of dry cheese. Learn how to cook meals using traditional methods and local ingredients.Try your hand at weaving nomad carpets, using the wool of sheep and goat.
Experience the Dance of Ahidous, a traditional dance with tribal music, and play nomadic games with the children. No matter what you do, we know your days with the Amazigh nomads will be a life-changing experience.
Day 3: Nomad Homestay to Ighazzoun
We say goodbye to our Ait Atta nomads and trek through the amazing terrain of the Ighazzoun Valley, where we will camp for the night. 6 hours of walking.
Day 4: Ighazzoun to Marrakech
After the breakfast, we meet back up with our 4×4 Jeep and return to Nkob. We’ll have lunch in the Draa Valley in the shade of palm trees and arrive in Marrakech in the early evening.
Accommodation:
During the trek, you’ll have a modern two-person tent. For the homestay, you’ll have your own traditional goat-wool tent, sleeping just as your host family.
Meals: Tagines, couscous, askkif, which is a nomadic style soup, and abadir, nomadic bread, as well as other traditional meals.
Luggage: Mules will carry your luggage during the trip.
