DESCRIPTION
Visit our village on the banks of the Kinabatangan River. As there is no road access to our village you will sail from Sandakan into the mouth of the Kinabatangan, a journey that is rarely done by travelers and is one of the highlight of the trip! Our village has abundant great wildlife in the area. The Kinabatangan River is one of the best places for chances to see wild Orang Utans, elephants, crocodiles, hornbills, monkeys and many more in whole Sabah.
During your stay you have the chance to meet these animals while cruising with a local boat. You also get a first hand look at traditional boat making, community tree nurseries and craft making. In the evening you can help the local family with preparing the food.
You will stay in a private room within one of our family’s homes and sleep on a mattress on the floor with bedding and mosquito net. The bathroom is shared with cold water and mostly squat toilet.
Our village is a unique way to visit the river. It is miles from other lodges and so you will have a very personal and non-touristic experience. Most other lodges have up to 16 people in the boats to see wildlife and will also send out several boats to the river during peak season so areas can feel crowded sometimes.
The village is Muslim and so conservative dress is required. In Sandakan our English-speaking guide will meet you at Sandakan jetty with the boatman. He will also be your guide for the river cruises looking for wildlife and the other activities.
This trip is 3 days/2 nights.
