We had a great time learning the traditional weaving processes of the Lao and Hmong people, including cloth dyeing. It was so fun!
During the class we got a white silk scarf and two cotton napkins and then chose 3 colors. Based on the colors we chose, we went around collecting natural materials to make into dyes, including mulberry, indigo, turmeric and jackfruit bark. We then prepared and boiled them, trying out different dyeing techniques. The results were amazing!
With our creations drying in the sunshine, we tucked into traditional Lao lunch at their eatery beside the Mekong river. Tasty food, lovely activities and very pretty scenery made for a tranquil afternoon. If you find yourself in Luang Prabang, you'd better check this place out!
