DESCRIPTION

Want to learn how to make batik? Try batik drawing during our class! It provides you with a marvelous opportunity to experiment with batik and produce your own batik masterpiece.

Draw a wax resist, Hmong-style motif on hand-loomed hemp fabric to take home. We will dry the batik painting you have produced, fix the color and remove the wax for you. Due to time constraints, it is not possible to complete the dyeing portion of the batik process.

Don’t worry, no previous experienced is necessary to create a truly unique souvenir.

You have the option to take a morning class from 9:00 – 12:00 or the afternoon class from 13:00 – 16:00. This class is not available on Saturday and Sunday.

Price includes:

We are an artisan social enterprise based in Luang Prabang, Laos. Founded in 2000 the organization works to empower women through their traditional skills, and promote Laotian textiles and crafts across the globe. In Laos we work with women artisans, rural producer groups and Lao youth. By purchasing products or participating in our tours and weaving classes you make a direct contribution to the welfare of rural women artisans and the preservation of Lao’s weaving culture.

Location

This organization is truly a great example of a well-run, eco-friendly and sustainable, social enterprise that adds so much value to lives of the many women who are making the textiles and local staff. As an Australian traveler I loved taking part in the class, purchase beautiful hand woven textiles and eat fresh, tasty Lao food. All this is a relaxed, creative and inspirational location beside the Mekong River.
