DESCRIPTION

Detailed itinerary

Day 1:

Munene will pick you up at 8 am in Nairobi. From here we will drive to the area around Mount Kasigau in the Taita-Taveta area (6-7hr driving time). We will stop for lunch in Mtito Andei and enjoy a traditional Kenyan lunch. After arrival at the community-run camp, you will settle into your local mountain hut. In the afternoon one of the local guides will take you out for a sundowner at a rock with stunning views over the Kenyan landscape. Once back, the local women will cook a delicious traditional dinner for you.

Day 2:

We’ll wake up early and go for a walk through the local villages. You’ll get a good impression of local life. You’ll be warmly welcomed in the local houses and can visit a local school if you wish. During the walk your guide can tell you all about the daily life of the Taita tribe. Once back, we will get served a brunch by the locals before continuing our journey towards the Kenyan coast. Late afternoon we will arrive at Mida Creek, where we’ll be staying in community-run huts. Before the sun is down, you can use your time to walk to the village or down to the creek. In the evening you will have dinner at one of the local Giriama family homes in the village and you can spend as much time with the family as you want.

Day 3:

After an early breakfast you’ll go out with a local fisherman and have a traditional fishing experience. During your day you will find out about the different fishing techniques used in the creek to catch the variety of fish and seafood and you will enjoy a hearty fisherman lunch together. In the evening the Giriama ladies will prepare food for you at the camp, and you will be able to watch the sun go down over the coastal forest from the “rooftop bar.”

Day 4:

On our final day it is time to leave. You can choose to extend your stay in Watamu or Kilifi, go back to Nairobi or follow to Itinerary Stop 5 Tsavo Experience with the Maasai .

Meet Munene

Jambo, I am Munene! I grew up in Kenya, facing and experiencing the challenges of poverty and enjoying the privilege of a western sponsor funding my education.
