DESCRIPTION

Our excursion starts about 2h before low tide and leads us from the Kilifi side of Takaungu Creek down to the mangrove belt. The local ferryman takes us across to Takaungu village beach from where we'll explore the creek on foot, following along the coral cliffs towards the open ocean. Following the cliffs, we'll explore rock pools, admire the little tropical fishes darting here and there, enjoy the ocean views and air, and after a short walk reach our picnic destination.

Ahhh, take a seat and let us serve you a 'gourmet' vegetarian Kenyan streetfood / freshfruit picnic, complete with spiced coffee or tea (that's your choice) and endless ocean views. Once satisfied, grab the binoculars and watch some birds. And then it is floatation time. A small sandy low tide natural pool awaits our floating, splashing, laughing, playing. Of course, there's loads of opportunity for picture taking too! By now, the tide is coming in and we will have to head back so as not to have our path cut off by ocean waters. Depending on the time of day and day of the week, we might have an opportunity to visit the bead- and leather workshop in Takaungu for some shopping and if that was not enough, Wild Living Cafe located along the Kilifi highway may lure us in for cappuccinos and their famous baobab ice cream! Welcome ~ Karibu sana!

Meet Oluoch & Naraya

Hi, we're Naraya and Oluoch, a German-Kenyan couple who live and love life in Kilifi. Naraya first came to Kenya as a student in 1987 and has since lived, worked and traveled in many corners of the country. She coaches and mentors young Kenyan women and creatives and is an aspiring writer. Most of all, she loves nature, the Kenyan Coast, Indian Ocean beaches and the relaxed vibe of Kilifi. Oluoch aka DoubleOMsome was born and grew up in Mombasa. He is a true Coastarian, more so a well loved musician who makes a mark with his conscious lyrics expressed as AfroSoulRap, rhythm & poetry. Together, they inspire many and are plain fun to be around.
