Hiking to the top of Mount Longonot will give you the chance to experience the freedom and experience the great wilderness of East Africa and that only a short distance from Nairobi.
Mt Longonot is just less than 2780m (9100ft) above sea level. It is home to many wild animals like giraffes, zebras and antilopes. The crater has a tree-filled interior and has last erupted in the 1860’s. Hiking up Mount Longonot is a perfect day out from Nairobi.
We will pick you up at 8 am in the morning. The journey will give you a wonderful view on the Great Rift Valley along the way. It will take us around 1,5 hours to get to our starting point where we will start our climb at 2150m. The hike is set-up in various sections of which the second one is the most spectacular one. At the end of each section there is a resting point where you can prepare yourself for the next part of your journey.
This hike is not an easy hike but if you have a reasonably good fitness then it will be no problem. Once you have finished the second section, you are on the rim of the crater, which will reward you with magnificent views of the Great Rift Valley, Lake Navaisha and surrounding areas.
The whole trek will take around 5 hours of hiking.
