DESCRIPTION

Situated near the traditional craft village in Bantul, Yogyakarta. Together with my lovely wife and four children, we've been practicing zero waste lifestyle and decided to build our own homestay with 3 bamboo huts. Everyone is welcome in our little homestay because we believe in the aim of people to people interaction. Besides being a little sanctuary for people who are looking to spend their time to experience the real slow living life (like what Merryl Streep did this year, staying at our homestay), we also encourage our visitors to contribute to the local community by voluntarily offering a workshop such as English class.

You'll most likely spend your time reading a book, exploring our little village, eating home cooked food made by my lovely wife, learning the local craft, visit the waterfall nearby. And if you're interested, you can also book a cycling trip experience visiting artisan workshops and interact with them; woodworking workshop, pottery, Javanese hat maker, mosaic, and the list goes on.

Pick up service can be arranged and cost IDR 150.000 from the city.

Price includes:

  • Room
  • Breakfast
  • Wifi

Meet Josh & Fili

I'm Josh, founder of a tour guide school, Rumah Guide Indonesia, and founder of Rumah Inspirasi Jogja, a community project focusing on Environmental education and Sustainable Tourism based in Jogja. Together with my wife Filiana Mila Dewi and our 4 kids we have been practicing Minimum Waste Lifestyle on our way to Zero Waste Lifestyle. For 4 years now, instead of throwing our trash away, we manage everything and introduce our very own "bottle project" to motivate the locals to be responsible with their own trash. The results of our bottle project can be seen in our homestay as an eco-bricks and other additional furniture.

Thank you so much for a fabulous day. We learned a lot and had so much fun, learning to make flutes out of leaves, and caused chaos in a school, we will come back for sure!

Josh and Dewi are great hosts and very passionate about what they're doing. They gave us a very warm welcome and a real experience of living like a local in Bantul village. I rented the big hut with three other friends and have to say it's comfortable and clean. I'd recommend taking the cycling tour as well, since it's my favorite, riding through rice paddies and visiting local's artisan workshop. I'll definitely stay here again!
