DESCRIPTION

This trip will take you on a journey through the Indian cuisine of Sindhudurg Area in Southern India. Welcome to gourmand land! Leave your nutrition regime and diets behind and know that even if you can’t live like a king in Sindhudurg, you surely can eat like one. You will stay with a lovely Indian family who will make you feel at home right away.

Though spicy at times, the rich aromas of freshly ground coconut and masalas permeate through the air in a Sindhudurg kitchen. Seafood whether crab, prawns, or the local bangda (mackerel) is always a fresh catch. Marinated succulent chicken prepared in various styles is also a local favorite. The veggie lovers will not go hungry as most vegetables are farm fresh and seasonal. ‘Sol kaddi’ a coconut cream based appetizer is a quintessential part of every meal.

Sindhudurg predominantly has the Maratha population. However there is also a sizeable Saraswat community. The Saraswat women have their own style of cooking. Unlike the malvani food, the Saraswat food is less spicy. On this culinary trail, we invite you to a Saraswat and a Malvani home. Ask a question

Hi, my name is Rashmi. I am running a social enterprise dedicated to promoting sustainable rural tourism and supporting grass root development projects in India. We focus on both conserving and celebrating cultural traditions, to help stem the migration to the cities. We have helped creating home-stays in villages that are not used to seeing tourism and in this way generating income for the local families. I would love to invite you to experience and meet our local families.
