DESCRIPTION

Do you like being creative with paint and textile? Then this batik workshop is maybe your cup of tea. Everywhere you look in Gambia you see people wearing batik clothes. The Gambians love these colorful clothes. Geneba or one of the others will teach you all the ins and outs of batik painting. In order to be able to batik the textile needs to be treated with a specific wax first. As soon as the wax has dried the textile can be painted. The parts that have wax don’t absorb any paint. In this way you can create beautiful patterns. Take home your own piece of artwork.

Price includes:

  • Class
  • Materials
  • Take home your own piece of Batik textile

Meet Franco, Alhagie Saho

Ask a question

Hello, we are Franco, Alhagie Saho. We are born in Jakaba in Gambia’s countryside. At a very young age we started looking for a better future for our family and ourselves. We have worked in a guesthouse for some time where we have met many people from around the world. This has taught us a lot. Ten years ago we got in contact with a couple of people from the Netherlands. With them we have set-up several projects with the goal to give children a chance to build a future. Franco speaks English and Dutch and Alhagie speaks English. We would love to show you our Gambian way of life and to learn from each other. We are looking forward to welcome you!

Location

We (me and my 11 year old daughter) really enjoyed our Batik Workshop! De place of the workshop is very nice, the teacher was great. We had a good lunch, this is not included but for a few dalasi you can join the lunch. We wish we knew it before so that we could do more of the workshops they offer.
