This tour is the same as the View Cambodia’s countryside by bicycle in half a day except for the fact that you will enjoy a typical Cambodian lunch at a local family’s house, learn about the process of making the Cambodian traditional scarf and Buddhist stupas. We will cycle through rice paddy fields, pass lively markets, people working on their land, and see and experience the traditional way of working near Battambang. You will also have the option to ride a bamboo train, a unique and exciting adventure and learn about the history of this transportation system. There can be more stops at places of interests, depending on your riding pace and interest. This easy ride is approximately 35km on flat roads (some paved and some on a dirt road).
Besides learning about the traditional ways of living, I will also give you insight in the way rice is produced and used. We will educate you on the two rice growing seasons in Cambodia, about the different types of rice and their use. In many ways, the cycle of planting, growing, and harvesting of rice dictates the rhythm of Cambodian life. Many of the families we meet create their traditional products in the period between planting and harvesting their fields.
Along with viewing the production of and sampling traditional Cambodian products you will also get to know more about the history of Battambang and the period of the Pol Pot regime.
At the end of this day you will have a good insight in the daily life of Cambodia’s countryside and traditional livelihoods. An impression, I hope, will last!
The tour starts at 7:30am and ends between 3.30 pm-4pm.
You can choose whether you want to go for a Bamboo train or not. Please note that the entrance fee for the Bamboo train is 10$. I cannot afford to pay the fee for one or two guests so in this case the guests need to pay the fee for themselves. However, for a group of more than three, I will pay the entrance fee.
This tour started in 2010 in collaboration with a social enterprise and local college students with the intention of providing vocational training to local college students while also educating tourists about everyday life in Cambodia.
